How much does dreadlock maintenance cost in Dubai?

Retwist and maintenance for dreadlocks typically starts from AED 525 for artificial or human hair locks. Sisterlocks and microlocks range from AED 1575 to AED 2100 depending on your hair’s length and thickness.

How often should I get my locs retwisted in Dubai?

Most clients retwist every 3-5 weeks for traditional locs or 6-8 weeks for sisterlocks and microlocks. The interval depends on hair texture, growth rate and personal style preference.

How do I care for my dreadlocks in Dubai’s heat and humidity?

Hydrate regularly, cover with a silk scarf at night and use light, water-based sprays. Wash every 1-2 weeks with a sulphate-free shampoo and avoid heavy oils that attract sand and pollutants.

Can I swim with dreadlocks in Dubai’s pools or at the beach?

Yes, but protect your locs first: rinse with clean water, apply leave-in conditioner, use a swim cap, and wash locs thoroughly after swimming to remove chlorine or salt.

Are dreadlocks suitable for children in Dubai?

Absolutely, but maintenance must be gentle. Opt for medium-sized locs, check for tension at the roots and moisturise the scalp. Maintenance frequency is similar to adults.

Which types of dreadlocks last longest between retwists?

Sisterlocks and microlocks generally last longer (6-8 weeks) between retwists than traditional artificial or human hair locks (3-5 weeks), provided you follow a good care routine.

What’s the difference between artificial locks and human hair locks?

Artificial locks are made from synthetic hair and are easy to maintain, while human hair locks blend more naturally and can be styled like your own hair. Both start from AED 525.

How do I prepare for a dreadlocks appointment in Dubai?

Arrive with clean, detangled hair. Deep condition or steam beforehand, avoid heavy products and bring photos of your desired style for a tailored consultation.

Can I bring my own extensions for dreadlocks installation?

Yes. Let your stylist know the hair type and quantity in advance so they can assess compatibility with your natural hair and desired loc size.

Is there a risk of hair damage with frequent retwisting?

Only if the locs are twisted too tightly or you manipulate them excessively. A skilled stylist will use correct tension and recommend aftercare for your hair type.

Can I transition from braids to locs at your salon?

Yes. Our crown artists assess your hair’s condition, remove braids safely, deep condition, and guide you through starter locs. See our [locs services](https://qasralsharsalon.com/services/braiding-styles) for details.

Dreadlock Maintenance Dubai: The Sophisticated Guide

3 September 2026 4 min read

There’s a certain confidence that comes with healthy, well-maintained locs, each twist and coil a statement of artistry and care. But in Dubai’s climate, dreadlock maintenance becomes more than routine. It’s both a science and a ritual, especially for textured hair. Whether you wear traditional locs, sisterlocks or micro locs, this guide is your blueprint for keeping your crown flawless from JVC to Al Rigga.

How Long Does a Retwist Last in Dubai?

Humidity, sea breezes and hard water play by their own rules. Retwist longevity depends on your hair type, the size of your locs, and how active your lifestyle is. In Dubai, expect a fresh retwist to stay sharp for 3-5 weeks on thicker, Afro-textured hair, or 2-4 weeks for finer textures. Sisterlocks and microlocks might hold longer, but only if you avoid over-manipulation and follow your aftercare program religiously.

Dreadlocks Care Dubai: Your Essentials

Caring for dreadlocks here is different than back home, African, Caribbean, European or Gulf. Here’s what our crown artists recommend:

Pre-appointment hydration: Always deep-condition or steam before a retwist. Dubai’s water is hard and dries out textured hair, and well-moisturised hair is less prone to breakage during manipulation.
Scalp first: Itching and flaking are common with the city’s heat. Use a sulphate-free shampoo and massage your scalp during each wash (ideally every 1-2 weeks).
Tension check: A good retwist is firm but never painful. Watch for bumps or tenderness; these are signs the stylist pulled too tightly, which risks traction alopecia.
Night care: Silk or satin wraps are essential. Cotton pillowcases or Dubai’s dry AC will strip away precious moisture.
Moisturising daily: A light, water-based spritz (never heavy oils) keeps locs hydrated and prevents buildup from heat and sand.

Choosing the Right Locs Service: Styles, Time and Price

Dreadlocks are not one-style-fits-all. The best option balances your hair texture, maintenance tolerance and lifestyle, whether you’re a doctor in Business Bay or a student in Al Nahda. Here’s how the most popular types compare:

Loc Style	Installation Time	Price (AED)	Retwist Frequency	Who It Suits Best
Artificial Locks	4-6 hours	525	3-5 weeks	All textures, easy upkeep
Human Hair Locks	4-6 hours	525	3-5 weeks	Afro/coily, looks most natural
Sisterlocks	14-20 hours	1575	6-8 weeks	Fine/natural hair, minimal bulk
Micro Locks	18-24 hours	2100	6-8 weeks	Thicker hair, versatile styling

Timeframes and prices depend on hair length and desired thickness. For custom designs or extra-long hair, your stylist will confirm the price at consultation.

Living with Locs in Dubai: Special Considerations

Dubai is stunning, and brutal on textured hair. Here’s how to keep your locs healthy:

Protect before the pool: Always rinse hair with clean water first, apply a leave-in, and wear a swim cap. Chlorine and saltwater can weaken your locs and cause dryness.
Wash smart: Never over-wash. Once every 1-2 weeks is perfect, but always focus on scalp cleanliness. If you sweat often (hello, gym in Bur Dubai), a gentle rinse between washes helps.
Salon hygiene: Loc tools must be sanitised after every client. Our crown artists, trusted by clients from Nigeria, Sudan and the Gulf, take this seriously, ask about our cleaning protocols if you have concerns.

Aftercare and When to Book Your Next Retwist

After each retwist, stay gentle for the first week. Avoid tight styles, limit updos and keep your scalp moisturised. If you notice fuzziness before your next appointment, it’s normal, especially with finer hair or if you love a hot shower. Retwist timing varies, but regular maintenance keeps the base of each loc strong and prevents matting or thinning.

When you’re ready to book, send us a WhatsApp photo of your current locs and desired style, plus your hair length for a quick, custom estimate. Or book directly online, our Afro/textured hair artists serve clients from Deira, Al Rigga, Dubai Marina and beyond, and give honest, specialist advice.
